Mahindra Supports Goan NGO Cause of Our Joy (COOJ)

COOJ, or Cause of Our Joy, the Goan NGO that is making great strides in reaching people with mental health issues, will receive the income from donation passes from Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd for its road trip Mahindra Open Drive. Mahindra has collaborated with United Way, a non-profit organisation that galvanises and organises corporate houses, volunteers, NGOs etc towards community service, to pay out pass revenue and donations to particular Goan NGOs. Anyone who wishes to avail of the COOJ Mahindra Open Drive pass can do so through the button below (COOJ donation pass).

Aside from aiding people with mental health issues and facilitating a suicide prevention programme called You Matter, COOJ has its Elder Care Programme. This programme has for the last two years given new hope to senior citizens in Goa who are living with dementia and other mental health problems. It has also provided other senior citizens with opportunities to fill their lives with love, laughter, and a sense of worth by making them part of  a socially inclusive group. The programme concentrates on recreational, creative and therapeutic activities while providing support services to lessen the weight on the shoulders of the caregivers as well. The programme is engaged in disseminating information about geriatric mental health and dementia.

A lack of feasible transportation to mobilise elderly clients to and from the COOJ centre has proved an obstacle to offering therapeutic services. Donating will enable the purchase of a new car to allow efficiency in a pick-and-drop facility and hence enhance COOJ’s ability to extend help to the elderly in our society.

Mahindra Open Drive promises to be one of the events of the year in Goa. It includes a road trip starting from the cities of Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune and Bangalore on the 6th of November 2019 to culminate in the festival of the year on the 8th and 9th of November 2019 at the Bandodkar Grounds, Panaji, Goa from 4pm onwards. Attendees can look forward to a feast of food, art, music, culture and a flea market, besides being educated about and supporting a charitable cause close to their hearts. Some of the musicians in the line-up for entertainment are Chico and the Gypsies, Raghu Dixit, Brooklyn Funk Essentials and Harouna Samake.

The festival’s fundraising aims at supporting the following causes: education, healthcare, safety, livelihood, the environment, and rights and inclusion. You can donate to COOJ by purchasing passes to the Mahindra Open Drive festival on the 8th and the 9th or by donating to the NGO directly using the button below.
