Mahindra Supports Goan NGO Cause of Our Joy (COOJ)

Aside from aiding people with mental health issues and facilitating a suicide prevention programme called You Matter, COOJ has its Elder Care Programme. This programme has for the last two years given new hope to senior citizens in Goa who are living with dementia and other mental health problems. It has also provided other senior citizens with opportunities to fill their lives with love, laughter, and a sense of worth by making them part of a socially inclusive group. The programme concentrates on recreational, creative and therapeutic activities while providing support services to lessen the weight on the shoulders of the caregivers as well. The programme is engaged in disseminating information about geriatric mental health and dementia.

A lack of feasible transportation to mobilise elderly clients to and from the COOJ centre has proved an obstacle to offering therapeutic services. Donating will enable the purchase of a new car to allow efficiency in a pick-and-drop facility and hence enhance COOJ’s ability to extend help to the elderly in our society.
